Using the Team You Have (Small Church) & Who Mentors you? Who are you mentoring?
  • Using the Team You Have (Small Church)
    - Steve & Shawn Reed
You, almost assuredly, already have all the people you need to fulfill the call of God sitting in your church at this very moment.  But who are they? And how do you recruit them and get them to work together? In this fun and practical session you will discover how amazing you can sound and how far you can go with what you already have.
  • Who Mentors you? Who are you mentoring?
    - Stan Endicott
Who mentors you?  Who are you mentoring?   Does mentoring have to do with age?  Is mentoring a weekly, scheduled process?   How long does mentoring last?  Should I try to find a mentor?   Maybe you have been mentoring someone without even realizing it.  It’s important to get clarity on what mentoring is and what it isn’t.  This class experience will help you understand mentoring.

God’s Worship Institute
God's plan for a dynamic relationship with Him is perpetuated & developed in our ministries as we teach our praise teams and musicians how to worship. The Bible already outlines this plan of action through the Mosaic, Davidic, and Pauline Schools of Worship. Listen as Dr. Vernon Whaley, Dean of the Liberty University School of Music, explains how the origin, organization, operation, and opportunities of these three schools of worship serve as a Biblical model for discipling our own praise teams and musicians.

Teaching Public Prayer to a Congregation & The Procession of Praise
  • Teaching Public Prayer to a Congregation
    - Brannon Hancock
Scripture encourages us to "pray without ceasing." Such lives of constant prayer flow out of corporate worship, which might be understood as one continuous prayer  - dialogue with the Father, led by the Son, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Our task as worship leaders, therefore, is to teach this understanding of worship to our congregations, and to facilitate the act of public prayer. We will explore this topic together and share theological reflections, contextual considerations and practical advice.

Microphone Techniques for Acoustic Pianos in a Live Setting

Many times the worship team will opt for a digital piano over an acoustic for many reasons:

  • It’s not in tune.
  • The church doesn’t own the right kind or quantity of microphones.
  • I can’t isolate the piano from the drums, guitars and floor monitors.

I know, as a piano player , if a Steinway grand or good sounding upright were available, I might prefer it to the digital and the “fake” piano sound I always end up with and an action that feels nothing like a piano.

We’re going to demonstrate techniques that work in a live setting that will shed some light on how to make this work for you., if you dare!

What to Say & Bible and Music
  • What to Say
    - Rich Kirkpatrick
While we as worship leaders spend a lot of energy on our music skills, what we say matters, too. Should I just speak freely at the moment as the Spirit leads or should I write out my prayers? How do I stay true to who I am while communicating to the church what I know God wants to say to them? In this presentation, you will learn that authenticity counts! But, you will also learn that being authentic indeed requires some practiced communication skills.  Whether it is leading a song transition, sharing a prayer or giving announcements growing in communication will significantly improve your effectiveness.
  • Bible and Music
    - Dr. Brannon Hancock
Not only does the Bible portray and guide our use of music in congregational worship, but the Church has a rich tradition of drawing upon the Bible as a primary source for worship music, so that the word is not only read but sung as well. This mutually reinforcing relationship has nourished Christian worship all the way back to it's "pre-history" in the worship of the people of Israel, and is key to the renewal of congregational worship today.

Team vs Group & Teams and Rehearsals
  • Team Vs. Group
    - Steve and Shawn Reed
How do you get a diverse group of volunteers who don’t speak the same musical language or have the same preferences to become a team? It takes the planning, strategy, skills and confidence that you will learn in this fun and practical session. Steven + Shawn will share from their decades of church service and extensive travels to churches of all shapes and sizes what they have learned about how to run an effective rehearsal, how to bring unity by dealing with conflict/attitudes, how to be the leader you were created for, and much more.
  • Teams and Rehearsals
    - Stan Endicott
Rehearsals are one of the most important opportunities of the week for worship ministries.  Rehearsals build common trust, community, skill development, volunteer development and put your worship team in a place of most potential for the weekend services.   Rehearsals are not “run throughs”.  Don’t be among those churches who say, “oh, we don’t rehearse, we just do a “run-thru”  a couple hours before the service.    Rehearsals are GOLD!

The Legend of Joe: A Church Media Tech Superhero & It Takes Two for a Great Mix: Worship Team and Tech Team
  • The Legend of Joe: A Church Media Tech Superhero
    - Zach Merritt (Sharefaith)
Joe is a rock star volunteer who is helping his church website reach and engage more people than ever before, but it’s not because of what Joe knows. It’s about who Joe knows. Whether it’s updating the church website, pushing notifications to everyone with the church mobile app, gathering and presenting the worship service graphics, or implementing online giving, no job is too tough for Joe! Come hear Joe's story, see the tools that he works with, and be the superhero that your church needs… and deserves!
  • It Takes Two for a Great Mix: Worship Team and Tech Team
    - Doug Gould (Worship MD)
Many times the sound operators are blamed for the bad mix but is the responsibility theirs entirely?
No, the band has just as much to do with producing a good sound as the running sound on the other end of the sanctuary.
This class will lay out suggestions for both sides in helping them to achieve the best mix possible.
